Autumn

by Ruth

The shadows grow deeper and darker. The days are shorter and the nights are longer. This is Autumn, the interim between Summer and Winter.

The equinox occurs twice a year when the sun is directly overhead at the equator, and the days and nights are of equal length.

In olden times, people where superstitious and went to great lengths to hide in caves burning small fires to light up the night, making prayers and perhaps even sacrifices. Some may even have believed that their ancestors were present and they had conversations with them.

This is ALL very spooky and scary.

We have Halloween when we dress up and dance around bonfires, symbolic of the olden days, to keep the spirits away. The dressing up might be to hide ourselves from the spirits.

Here I go falling in with the olden beliefs.
