They wore cotton shoes, slip-ons. They did this to not wake up the patients at night. In the morning you could hear the doctor’s shoes – clip, club, clip, club – a real funny sound. And then they were mixed in with the people from the rehab, that went click, click, click.
Clip, clip, club, club, click, click all mixed together. It was funny. I used to get used to one sound, and then there would be another one.
The night was the worst. People yelling and scraming, “Help me! Help me!” from the bathrooms. Nobody was there to take care of them.
I took a bad fall while I was here and they said they would have to send me to the hospital. “No,” I said.
I guess you have to get used to it, but it is rough.
