Caesar

by Elvira

Marc Antony                           saluted                                    Caesar,
whose Eyes                  wore                            coins of the Realm
Honeyed Words from                                     Janus’ Mask:
Praise
and
Denegation
Coupled,
as Birds                                   bickering and
cooing.

Caesar’s Bloodied                                                       sword, now
cleaned,
re-forged,                    as crosses
for a New Religion,                 Purifying
Travesties                                and
Lies,                                         on friends and
foes alike,
Expelling
Mighty Thrust                                                 on all
assembled.

Caesar,                                                                        what
rehabilitation cladds
thy Moldy body?
You, no longer                                                 usurper
Be:
Now:                                                                Hero
Emperor
God!
Would              that Death
truly                                         Imitated                      Life:
Tales                            spoke                           by unsullied
tongues
Would              that Hero,
Pure, and                                                         Villain not,
a Martyr                                  Be.

As Flesh                                   Burns                           on Sanctified
Pure,
As Scribes                                patter                          Fairy Tales
Visionaries                              roasts                          with Heart’s
Desire,                                                                         that barest
grunts                                      spoke                           True.
