Boko Haram – “We will trade your daughters . . .

By Elvira
To my Grandma, who lived this life

Noises                                                                    in the Night
Footsteps               muffled,                      as
they                 grab                             the Sleeping
Princesses
Screams
Bound hand
Taped Mouths

Gone.

Where?                                                     To rich pedophiles
wanting                       unsullied flesh.
They                                  become                       Objects —
Nonperson
Slaves
to the whims                                                         of the Owner

Call                              them
Dancing Girls
Geishas
Hostesses
Children                            they are
bound to a Life
of Hardness:

towards other
to masters
to self
Demeaned                  until
they escape                                                           with their
Child
to become                   Free:
Whores
maids
slaves
Until,                                                                     Some
find                              “the Prince”
Who                                   will give                       them
a life:
a family
a selfhood
an enduring love.

But,                                                                        the Trauma
Lives,
Eats
Gnaws                         at “normal”
Live.

And,                                                                       Only
Death
IS
A
RELEASE.
