The Reason for the Season

by Betty

Christmas has come and gone. Santa, in his sleigh flown by reindeer, is back home at the North Pole.

The sparkling lights of Winterhaven are gone, packed away for another year. The streets are empty, quiet and dark. The bumper-to-bumper cars and the wandering people have gone home until next year.

Inside the homes, people are busy packing away the trees, the ornaments collected over many years, all carefully boxed with their history recorded inside. Pine needles still dot the carpet.

The Christmas cookies are memories. The holly and poinsettia plants survive.

Now the true business of Christmas begins:

Feed the hungry.

Shelter the homeless.

Protect the children and animals.

Visit the lonely.

Rebuild the troubled nations.

Find peace for all people.

The time is now.

The need is now.

The challenge is now.

It can be done.

            It must be done.

                        It will be done.

It’s up to you and me. One small step at a time will get it done.
