Fourth of July

By Betty

Plan your Fourth of July. The newspaper printed it. The folks of Winterhaven planned it.

Already the parade route has been shortened to accommodate the hot weather. The Scottish bag pipers are ready to lead the way. The huge American flag is ready to travel with the Parade, the flag fluttering in the march. The high school bands are ready to march and light the way.

Children are busy decorating wagons, tricycles, dogs. Mothers are busy baking cookies for the end of the parade. This year it will be breakfast food at the center island.

Tall Abe Lincoln in his tall black hat will read the Declaration of Independence. The words will ring out – “All men are created equal . . . life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” People, old and very young, will stand silent, listening.

People will eat and visit friends living here year after year. People will meet and welcome new residents.

You all are welcome. Let freedom ring.
